Nurturing Support for Highly Sensitive Souls

Empowering Anxious Empaths

Empathic Struggles: Therapy for HSPs dealing with overwhelm.

Do you often feel overwhelmed, as if you're drowning in a sea of emotions that may not even be yours?

Minor incidents cause your heart to race. Unexpected sounds leave you feeling anxious. The weight of others' feelings feels heavy on you, like a blanket.

The busyness of everyday life can leave you feeling tired and fragile, like a delicate piece of glass. The overwhelming nature of day-to-day tasks can often make you feel as if you're on the verge of falling apart.

Highly sensitive people (HSPs) are acutely attuned to every subtle shift in atmosphere, every undercurrent of tension or discomfort. Small talk feels like navigating a minefield, each word weighted with the potential for misunderstanding or rejection.

Your empathy is a valuable gift. However, it can also make you susceptible to the emotional ups and downs of others. This can have both positive and negative effects.

Relationships feel like an uphill battle. You absorb others' feelings, leaving you burnt out and struggling to set boundaries. Misunderstandings and conflicts arise, leaving you feeling isolated and misunderstood by friends and family. The lack of healthy boundaries leads to resentment and chaos, impacting the connections you cherish most.

These challenges spill over into your overall well-being. Stress and anxiety manifest physically, affecting your health. Loneliness creeps in despite the presence of people around. Neglecting self-care, you struggle to find joy or fulfillment, feeling lost amidst constant emotional turmoil.

During the night, sleep escapes you while concerns and hypothetical scenarios spin in your thoughts. Conversations and scenarios replay endlessly, analyzed for signs of disapproval or disappointment. The future looms uncertain, dotted with seemingly impossible obstacles and pitfalls from your current vantage point.

You yearn for relief, for someone who understands the plight of navigating life as an anxious, highly sensitive soul.

This overwhelming sense of struggle, isolation, and exhaustion brings you to the threshold of seeking therapy. You're weary of feeling like you're waging an uphill battle against your own mind and body. You want validation, understanding, and guidance to find peace and independence in a noisy and overwhelming world.

You seek someone who can help you navigate towards healing and growth.

Discover how your distinct sensitivity influences your experiences. Learn how to thrive in a world that can be overwhelming with therapy tailored specifically for you.

Therapy for Empaths & HSPs FAQs

  • An empath or highly sensitive person is someone who is deeply attuned to the emotions and energy of others. They tend to have a very sensitive nervous system and can often feel overwhelmed or a strong reactivity to both external and internal stimuli like light, noise, hunger, and various types of pain.

HSPs are sometimes referred to as having ‘sensory processing sensitivity’ (SPS) and fall under the ‘neurodivergent’ umbrella.

Empaths and HSPs often have rich and complex inner lives and can struggle with anxiety and depression as a result of their sensitivities.

  • Like many neurodivergent categories, think of heightened sensitivity on spectrum.

Signs may include feeling overwhelmed in crowded or noisy environments, having a strong need for down time in a quiet, low key/low lit environment, avoiding violent or horror type media, feeling uncomfortable in bright lights or certain types of clothing, being highly empathetic and intuitive and sometimes exhausted because of it, and experiencing strong emotional reactions to stimuli (such as feeling deeply moved by intense beauty and awe in art, nature, or media).

  • Absolutely. Therapy can provide valuable support, guidance, and tools to help you understand and manage your sensitivity effectively, leading to greater balance, resilience, and well-being.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process, and you're always in control of what you're ready to explore. Your therapist will provide a safe and supportive environment to address challenges at your own pace.

  • Therapy goes beyond surface-level techniques, delving into the underlying factors contributing to anxiety, overwhelm and sensitivity. By addressing root causes and providing personalized guidance, therapy offers lasting transformation.

  • Every individual journey is unique, but many clients begin to notice positive changes within a few sessions. Consistency and commitment to the process are key factors in achieving sustainable growth and relief.
